Arachne joins the Washington & Lee University Repertory Dance Company as guest artists in a showcase of student and faculty works. Arachne will perform two works from the company’s diverse repertory, evoking a winding river and a journey through the desert. W&L artistic director Jenefer Davies invites audience members to a guest artist talk back session immediately following each performance.

Exploring humanity's multi-faceted relationship to water, this work initiated by Daniel Burkholder is a new collaborative version with Daniel Burkholder/The PlayGround, Arachne Aerial Arts, Coyaba Dance Theater and Devi Dance Theater. Combining traditional and contemporary dance techniques with live music, spoken word and video, My ocean is never blue is a collage of movement, images, information and sensory input. Live music performed by the Kenyon Piano Quartet, Jonathan Matis and Sam Turner.

Arachne Aerial Arts joins DC Drum Core, Soul in Motion Players, Gamelan Mitra Kusma, Silk Road Dance Company and Taratibu Youth Association for a benefit concert to celebrate the grand opening of Joe’s Movement Emporium’s beautiful new theater. Enjoy performances by Joe’s artists, light refreshments and dancing to the Afro-Cuban beats of DC Drum Core. Saturday’s performance forms the centerpiece of the weekend’s opening festivities (see Joe’s website for more information).

Combining the aerial artistry of Arachne Aerial Arts with live music by Washington’s Kenyon Piano Quartet, this evocative program conjures places real and imagined and the spaces in between - from a journey through the desert to the edges of sleep. The program features new and restaged works by Arachne Aerial Arts set to live and recorded music by classical and contemporary composers. Johannes Brahms’ Piano Quartet in C Minor (Opus 60), performed live by the Kenyon Piano Quartet, creates a lush score for the great places and spaces of our lives.

This informal showing of works-in-progress concludes a 10-week choreographic workshop convened this fall, hosted by Arachne Aerial Arts and facilitated by Laura Schandelmeier. Fieldwork is a nationally recognized process that supports the development of new artistic works; this informal showing concludes the workshop process, but the creative process continues. Workshop participants include Ann Behrends, Andrea Burkholder, Raquel Hernandez-Sevier, Therese Keegan, Mara Neimanis, Eleanor EChO Ory, Sonya Melissa Schwab, Lizard Walker-Keegan, Kate Winston and Sharon Witting.
