FIELDWORK for the Aerial Arts

In partnership with Dancenow Productions and The Field/DC, Arachne Aerial Arts is pleased to host a 10-week Fieldwork workshop facilitated by Laura Schandelmeier and specifically focused on the static aerial arts (e.g. silks, lyra, trapeze, rope, net, invented apparatus). Fieldwork is a nationally recognized process that supports the development of new artistic works. At each session, aerial artists show works-in-progress and exchange feedback with their peers. The workshop will culminate in a works-in-progress showing. Cost is $240/person for the 10-week workshop. Learn to Fly! Introduction to Aerial Technique
Sundays, September 13-October 4 at 10am-12pm (4 weeks)
Taught by Andrea Burkholder and Sharon Witting of Arachne Aerial Arts, this four-week workshop will introduce students to the beauty, grace and physicality of aerial work. Topics include conditioning and injury prevention for aerialists; basic skills in static trapeze, lyra (hoop) and silk; and safe exploration on the ground and in the air. No experience is necessary, though students should be prepared to challenge themselves and work within their own limits. Students must be 12+ years old. Cost is $200/person for the 4-week workshop. |
Private Lessons
Sundays at 10am-12pm; Thursdays at 7:30pm-9:30pm
Arachne offers ongoing private and semi-private lessons by appointment. No experience is necessary. Sign up alone, with a friend, or contact us and we will pair you with another student if requested. Hourly cost is $75/person for solos, $45/person for duets and $35/person for trios (please inquire about rates for larger groups).
Open Studio
Thursdays at 7:30pm-9:30pm
Arachne now hosts an open studio time for current students wishing to practice skills and build strength while networking with peers. Students must be able to work independently without a spot. Arachne will hang two fabrics and one static trapeze for group use; additionally, participants may bring their own equipment to share. Monthly registration and permission of the instructor are required. Weekly cost is $25/person. |
